Dressing for Tomorrow: How Fashion Empowers the Next Generation of Women

Ok! Let’s go back to the last time you stepped out of home. Do you remember how much time it took to dress up? How many dresses did you try before finalizing on THE ONE? Well, if you are a man, it might be a different case, but women… well, we are known for taking our time (the result is worth the time)! ;)

Why does a dress matter so much? Well, there are many boxes to tick. Comfort, look, personal style, body type, occasion, time of the day, company, venue…the list goes on. The Global Scientific Journal defines fashion as a "visible sign system" that individuals use to express their personality, emotions, and beliefs through their choice of clothing and accessories.

Brittany McCabe from the American Academy of Pediatrics emphasizes the role of clothing in fostering independence, stating: "When children can master small problems and choices, like what to wear, they feel proud. This builds their self-esteem, self-expression, and confidence". Children are affected by many small things growing up. Minor things play a major role in shaping who they become as an adult.

Some kids are mini-fashionistas on the go, some kids prefer easy comfort. Every kid has their own choice, their own perspective about how they want to feel and how they want to be perceived by others. When they choose their clothes, they are also choosing an image of themselves.

Often little kids love wearing their favorite cartoon character, impressed by their bravery or courage - like Simba from The Lion King or Elsa from The Frozen. Wearing these outfits makes them feel strong and courageous. Some kids wear co-ords wearing their favorite superheroes like Batman or Spiderman and imitate them. Choosing to wear clothes with certain characters is how some children show the world who they are and what they like, helping them build their identity.

Not only prints but also colors have a psychological effect on a kid's personality. For instance,  purple can foster creativity and sensitivity in children, orange is thought to encourage confidence and extroversion, and yellow is associated with happiness and motivation. Choosing the right colors for your kid's wardrobe and encouraging them to pick outfits that fit the setting can subtly affect their productivity for the day.

Fashion is far more than fabric and trends; it’s a celebration of identity, a tool for empowerment, and a canvas for the expression of the self for kids. It teaches valuable lessons about diversity, respect, and individuality. By encouraging the next generation to explore and embrace fashion in ways that feel true to them, we not only enhance their confidence but also pave the way for a future where they feel empowered to express themselves and stand tall in all their endeavors.
